A wonderful answer for your smile;
As your trusted dentist, our goal is to help you keep all of your teeth for as long as possible. However, in some cases, the best option may be extraction and full replacement with dental implants Patients who are already missing their teeth or who have experienced significant decay or damage throughout the mouth can benefit greatly from full mouth replacement. Below, learn more about this option and what you can expect if it’s the right solution for your smile.
What can I expect from full mouth replacement?
A full mouth implant replacement requires weeks of planning and several visits to our office. At Canatella Dental, we can provide increased convenience because we offer state-of-the-art technology right here in house, and Dr. Canatella is an expert in complex dental implant cases. That means you will visit us every step of the way, with no need for referrals to outside visits.
The length of the procedure will vary based on which treatment option is best for you. Dr. Canatella will carefully evaluate your smile and work with you to determine the ideal replacement for your special case.
Implant-retained dentures are a great option for many patients. Also called an overdenture, this is a full set of prosthetic teeth that is attached to at least two dental implant posts that have been surgically placed in the gum line.
There are two types of implant-retained dentures:
- Bar-retained dentures: Supported by two to five dental implant posts, a bar follows the curve of the jaw and allows the full denture to easily clip on.
- Ball-retained dentures: Dental implant posts are topped with ball attachments, onto which the full denture can snap firmly in place.
All-On-4 Dental Implants;
Some patients are better suited for All-on-4 dental implants, also known as Teeth In a Day. Four to 6 dental implants are used for this method. The posts are longer than traditional dental implants, allowing them to draw maximum strength from the jaw bone. Two dental implants are typically placed along the side of the jaw with two more at the front.
This option is often recommended for patients who have less jaw bone density due to gum disease or extended tooth loss. With All-on-4, patients can leave our office with a fully-functioning fixed denture on the very same day.
Am I a candidate for full mouth replacement?
Not every patient is well suited for full mouth replacement. Sometimes, it is not necessary or wise to replace the entire arch of teeth even if some of them are severely decayed or damaged. Also, implant dentistry is generally reserved for patients who are in good overall health.
